Alumni Feature: Lianne Farynyk
RIT Photo loves to features alumni success stories. We are pleased to introduce you to Lianne Farynyk
A Short Bio
Hi, my name is Lianne and I work at a digital marketing and technology agency called Beamly as an associate content strategist. I am from New York City and returned to the City after graduating from RIT in 2018. I earned a BFA degree with an emphasis in Visual Media.
What are you doing in your job?
I have a hybrid role in which I help strategize and develop creative content for email marketing, organic and paid posts to Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and numerousretail sites. The main brands I work with are COVERGIRL, Clairol, Sally Hansen, and Rimmel. My responsibilities vary and include design work, helping out on sets used for photo/video shoots with art directors, or writing about new/existing products. A large part of Beamly is the use of data, trends, and social” listening” to reinforce our marketing ideas and decisions. There is a lot of collaboration with different teams to tactically make and implement campaigns.
What do you love about it?
I really love brainstorming and collaborating needed to develop the best creative. Working with different teams who are experts in their field helps gain an outside perspective and well rounded executed project. Seeing a project start from the beginning to when the creative is posted is great to see. I also love that I get to use my skills from RIT in action almost everyday. I am still learning and getting better every day, which makes me happy too. Plus I often get free makeup!
How did you get started?
After I graduated from RIT, I went back to NYC and worked at 2 internships. In the fall I worked at a start up creative agency where I mainly did design work and social media marketing. During the winter I interned at a K-Beauty skincare company where I shot images for their social media and website along with writing and posting to their social medias (Pinterest, Facebook, and Twitter) regularly. In the past I had marketing and PR internships, but never an internship that incorporated visual media. I was very fortunate to have these opportunities.
What’s the passion!
Having my work influence other people – whether they know it or not – excites me! It is very cool to see my creative work used in public where anyone can view it while they’re scrolling through their feed or browser. Sometimes I come across it and I get excited. I am someone who is very intrigued about how and why things can impact people. Learning how to make an effective, impactful strategy or creative to market different products to different people keeps everything new and compelling!
What have you learned so far?
I’ve learned a lot! New skills in Photoshop and how to tackle and organize a social calendar. I’ve been learning new beauty trends, client management skills, and content strategy. I learned a lot in school but I’m learning on the job as well.
Anything else you want to say.
Upon graduating I was worried about where I was going to end up. I knew what I liked to do and I have learned that with my Visual Media education, there are endless job possibilities! It was a little intimidating when first seeing all these jobs that I could apply for and for sure it was a good problem to have. Once graduation happened, I knew that it would be okay to take some time to figure out what I wanted to do and what industry I was interested in working in. Applying to many jobs, interviewing and taking internships made me feel more prepared and confident in my next steps.
