Student feature – Daniela Solera
Bio:
Daniela Solera nació en Costa Rica, en 1992. Es estudiante de cuarto año en Imaging and Photographic Technology y espera graduarse en el 2015. Al graduarse, espera enfocarse en el área de image quality o trabajar en la industria de impresión. El ser estudiante internacional, ha sido una experiencia diferente, pero que vale la pena.
Cuál ha sido tu trabajo más difícil como estudiante de fotografía?
[D.S.] Cada trabajo ha sido un desafío porque han sido experiencias nuevas, especialmente en el área científica. Creo que de todos ha sido el proyecto final de Applied Sciences II, en el que se enfocaba en el área de microfotografía, o fotografía por medio del microscopio. En este proyecto debíamos fotografiar un espécimen seleccionado por cada uno y diseñar un poster informativo sobre el espécimen. Este proyecto fue un reto, empezando por el hecho de escoger el espécimen adecuado y del cual pudiera encontrar suficiente información. Llevó muchas horas de trabajo, pero me ayudó a ganar experiencia en un área de la fotografía muy diferente.
Qué te encanta de la universidad?
[D.S.] Hay muchas cosas de RIT que vale la pena recalcar. Es increíble la variedad de personas que uno llega a conocer de diferentes partes del mundo. También, el interés que demuestran los profesores para ayudar a los alumnos a superarse y ser cada vez mejores. Y, por supuesto, las amistades que se forman dentro y fuera de la carrera. El hecho de que el programa de Photo Sciences sea tan pequeño, hace más fácil el poder conocer a la mayoría de los estudiantes que forman parte de él. He tenido la dicha de conocer personas increíbles y amigos cuya amistad de verdad vale la pena.
Bio:
Daniela Solera was born in Costa Rica, in 1992. She is a fourth-year Imaging and Photographic Technology student and will graduate in 2015. Her interests are related to image quality testing and the printing industry. Being an international student studying at RIT has been a different experience, but definitely worth it.
What was your most challenging assignment as a photography student?
[D.S.] Every assignment has been a challenge because all the assignments have been related to new fields of photography. Probably one of the assignments that I really had to spend a lot of time planning and retouching was the final project for Applied Sciences II, which was wide field high resolution photomicrography poster. The purpose was to photograph a specimen that we selected, then design and illustrate an educational poster. This assignment required a lot of hours of shooting, editing and research. It really helped me gain experiences in a different field of photography and doing research.
What do you love about the school?
[D.S.] There are a lot of things at RIT that are amazing. There is incredible variety of people that you get to meet from different parts of the word. Also, the interest of the professors in what the students are doing and the encouragement to get better and succeed is very valuable. And of course the friendships you make inside and outside the classroom has been terrific. The photographic sciecnes is really small, which makes it easy to get to know almost everyone. I’ve had the luck to get to know amazing people in my time at RIT, including friendships that are worth keeping.
